PROGRAM

Day 1
Flights to Reykjavik with a change at a European airport.
Arrive in Reykjavik and depart for Grindavik, on the Reykjanes peninsula. Check in at the hotel. The Reykjanes Peninsula area provides an ideal introduction to the volcanic nature of Iceland. The region has been designated a UNESCO Geopark because of its unearthly and beautiful volcanic features. Free time and overnight in the Reykjanes area.

Day 2
Breakfast. The day begins with a drive along a scenic road leading to noisy waterfalls and mysterious mountains around Lake Clayfarnwatn. Stop at the old Strádakirka church. According to local legends, the church brings good luck and success to those in need. The road continues through green farmland and the coast of southern Iceland to the Golden Circle area. Visit Gudelfoss Waterfall, also called the Golden Waterfall, one of the most impressive in Europe. Nearby is the Geysir geothermal area with numerous hot springs. The most famous of these is Strohkyur, which erupts like clockwork. Overnight in Laugarvatn, Geysir region.

Day 3
Breakfast. The day includes exploring the South Coast region. Visit the majestic Selyalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, each with its own unique features. In the area is the beautiful glacial volcano Eyjafjallajokutl, famous for its eruption in 2010. An interesting multimedia exhibition at the foot of the volcano tells the story. Dirholaey is a rocky promontory distinguished by an arch of black lava. Thousands of seabirds nest there each summer. Black sand beaches and unusual rock formations can also be seen in the area. Next, travel through the Tjorsardalur valley with its contrasting landscapes of birch forests, lava sand fields, rivers and waterfalls nestled beneath the impressive Hekla volcano, Iceland's most frequently erupting. Optional visit to a Viking farm. Return to Laugarvatn. Overnight.

Day 4
Breakfast. Next visit two national parks. The UNESCO-listed Tingvellir Park is the site of the ancient Icelandic Parliament and considered a natural "jewel". The park is set on a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and frozen lava flows on the shores of Iceland's largest lake. The program continues with the Borgarfjordur Fjord and a visit to the historic site of Reykholt.
Next, drive to Reykjavik and check in at the hotel. Overnight in Reykjavik area.
